For any number from 1 to 9, find the number that makes 10 when added to the given number, e.g., by using objects or drawings, and record the answer with a drawing or equation.
Curious George: Museum of Tens | PBS KIDS: This tool helps students practice number bonds that make up ten. It arranges objects in two rows of fives to reinforce the ten frame pattern. It also helps students build their number sense and fluency by practicing the number pairs that make ten. Students can clearly visualize the remaining pairs needed as objects are represented in rows of five.
Simple Addition Stories: This tech tool helps students solve simple addition questions so that they learn the number bonds for pairs of numbers up to 5 and 10. Students can be asked to add the groups of objects together by counting as they drag them into the totals box.
NCTM illuminations Five Five Frame Addition: This tech tool supports students learning of basic number facts using frames of 5. There are four different games that can be played with this applet and they help develop counting and addition skills. In the first part ‘How Many’ students need to identify how many items or empty squares there are. In the second part ‘Build’ students need to drag the amount specified to the frame. In the third part ‘Add’ students need to drag items to complete addition problems. In the last part ‘play all’ students can play all parts.
Crickweb – String of Beads: This tech tool allows students to 'paint' the beads different colors by clicking on the color first and then the bead. On the home page of the game the player can practice making patterns of their own my using the string of ten beads. There are two levels within the game: Level 1-6 beads with five colors and Level 2-10 beads with eight colors to use. In these levels the player is supplied a pattern on a sting to follow or copy on the white beads. Once copied correctly the player can play again with another pattern.
