NLVM: Base Blocks Addition: This tech tool is very helpful in developing mental images of numbers, place value, and operations. Students use the base ten workspace to represent a variety of numerals and teachers can show a variety of base ten representations and ask students to write the associated numeral. This tool is also useful in illustrating the grouping rules.
IXL: Place value models - up to hundreds: This tool assesses the student’s understanding of place value. Students answer a series of questions that show a 3-digit number and need to choose between representations of base 10 blocks that make up the correct number.
Place Value Game: Toon University: This is a game that allows students to understand the value of each numeral in a number. This game tests the extent of students’ understanding of place value both by asking students to choose the right number that represents a written number and also by testing whether the student understands which value each number represents.
